Francine Gilmore at European Junior Championships

ESSU member Francine Gilmore represented GBR at the recent ESC European 10m Junior Championships in Osijek, Croatia. It was her first major international competition, and she was the only junior athlete (U21) to be selected for Great Britain!

Quote from Francine:

"What an amazing trip! The shooting part didn't go quite to plan but I learnt so much both on and off the range!!"

Congratulations on her selection!

ISCH - Hanover

The International Shooting Competition at Hannover (ISCH) is an excellent Championships to enable good-quality athletes to compete against some of top shooters in the World.  This is a very popular competition that attracts teams from most of Europe, India, Japan, Iran, and even athletes from Australia and Brazil have competed there in the past, particularly as part of their preparations for major events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships.
The available range-spaces fill up very quickly, so it is important to submit your Expression of Interest as soon as possible so that we can ensure that you are included in the preliminary entries that are required in early March.

Full details are available on the competition website: http://www.i-s-c-h.de/index.php/en/

As with all of these International competitions, participation is entirely at own expense in regard to travel, accommodation and entry-fees.

You need to submit an "Expression of Interest" by December to get an entry for this one!

RIAC - Luxemburg

RIAC is an annual air-gun competition that takes place in December and is organised by the Luxemburgh Shooting Federation in the town of Strassen.  ESSU Members have attended this competition for many years, either as individuals competing as "ENGLAND - ESSU", or with either of our Rifle or Pistol Academies.

The location and easy access makes this an ideal competition for those Members who would like to experience an international competition outside of the UK fired under ISSF Rules.  This is not for novice or beginner athletes because the Organisers require competitors to be of an 'International standard', however,  any Club shooter with a respectable average who is of or near County standard should not feel overwhelmed.

As with all of these competitions, attendance is entirely at own expense in respect of travelling, accommodation and entry-fees.

Home Country Internationals

These Matches are those that take place during the NSRA Bisley and Scotland National Meetings, and also include matches concurrent with the NSRA Airgun, 50m and Pistol Meetings, provided that there is at least one full Team representing another of the Home Countries to compete against.

The number of Team Members at the respective meetings will normally be:

NSRA Bisley and Scottish Meetings
Prone Rifle (mixed) team, (10 members)
Prone Rifle Womens team (5 members) - may be concurrent with the mixed team, if selected.
Junior (3 members)

British Airgun Championships
Air Rifle (3 members),
Air Pistol (3 members),

Juniors (3 members)

British 50m Championships
50m Rifle men (3 members)
50m Rifle women (3 members)
3 Position men (3 members)
3 Position women (3 members)

Only Full (shooting) members of the ESSU are eligible for selection for an England team and will qualify for England honours.  Team members will receive a medal on the first occasion, and date-bars and Certificates on subsequent occasions.  They are also entitled to purchase an England 'podium' tracksuit, blazer badge and tie.  Reserves will be selected for major matches and will receive a certificate but will not be entitled to a medal or a date-bar for that occasion.

The selection policy for Home Country International matches competed during the NSRA National Meetings are as follows:

Selections will be made at the conclusion of the Squadded Aggregate competition.

Main team: Team of ten comprising the top five English shooters in Class ‘X’ with the remaining five and two reserve places being selected by the Team Captain from Class ‘X’ and Class ‘A’ and at the Captain’s discretion a maximum of one from Class ‘B’ .

Women's team: Team of five comprising the top three English shooters in Class ‘X’  with the remaining two and reserve places being selected by the Team Captain from Class ‘X’ and ‘A’ and at the Captains discretion a maximum of one from Class ’B’ .

The nominated Team Captain and Secretary at will also be eligible for medals, certificates and date-bars.

InterShoot Den Haag - Holland

InterShoot is an annual air gun competition that takes place in late January and is organised in the town of Ockenburgh, near the Hague, Holland.  The ESSU usually sends a team of Members shooting air-pistol and air-rifle to compete as 'England-ESSU'.

The location and easy access makes this an ideal competition for those Members who would like to experience an international competition outside of the UK fired under ISSF Rules.  This is not for novice or beginner athletes because the Organisers require competitors to be of an 'International standard', however,  any Club shooter with a respectable average who is of or near County standard should not feel overwhelmed and should consider attending.

As with all of these competitions, attendance is entirely at own expense in respect of travelling, accommodation and entry-fees, althouh the ESSU will pay the Team entry-fees for those entered in an International competition who have been selected to represent England.

In recent years, all ESSU competitors have stayed in self-catering apartments at a nearby holiday-camp resort run by RoomPot Parcs, a well-established Dutch resort company.  By sharing the cost of accommodation and travelling, (if driving), with other ESSU team members, this has  become a very popular and affordable competition, ideally suited to both experienced Members and those who wish to attend their first international competition.  All entries must be made via the ESSU, and entry-fees paid in advance.  Therefore Members who would like to attend must complete an on-line 'Commitment Notice' that will be available on this website nearer the date.

InterShoot Holland

InterShoot 2016 will take place between 3rd and 6th February 2016.  Once again, ESSU Members will wish to attend this prestigious international event.  Further information of matches and timings can be found on the side-menu.  As entries will only be accepted via a National Governing Body, such as us, we will collate all those who wish to participate, and submit a joint entry-form.  Full costs of the entry fees and other administrative charges will be published here shortly.
